Stranger Danger – Wombat & Cosmos

Recently I met up with someone I’ve met online – that’s right, on the internet!  How does a straighty-one-eighty like me end up doing something so risky? No, I haven’t signed up to an online dating or social site; nor have I been swiping right? (or is it left, I have no idea!) No, nothing like that at all.  You see, I’ve just met a fellow blogger for the first time.

Through my contact page, I received an email from Clare of Clare’s Cosmos, who happened to be travelling to Brisbane and wondered if I’d be free to meet up and I was as it so happened. Clare was worried that I’d think her a stalker and even Chief was cautioning me on stranger-danger. “How do you know it’s really her” and “it might be a psycho posing as her.” The following day at lunchtime, I announced with great excitement to my colleagues that I was about to meet someone I’d met online and they all stopped mid-mouthful to check I wasn’t out of my mind or that I wasn’t pulling their collective legs. Their faces were a picture!

We had arranged to meet at the newsagents on the station concourse. I was a couple of minutes early and Clare’s train was a couple of minutes late and I was beginning to think that she wasn’t going to show. I needn’t have worried, as the next moment a lady matching Clare’s photo walked around the corner – she had a big grin on her face and I knew instantly it was her – no need for the copy of The Times under my arm!

Clare and I went to a nearby cafe and spent a jam-packed hour catching up on our families, travel, blogging and Clare’s winning speech from the Humorous Speech Contest; well done Clare, it’s fabulous.

So you see, sometimes meeting over the internet can be a great thing – until next time xx

I was delighted to meet you in person Lucy. ‘Stranger Danger’ and ‘Mad Stalker’ jokes aside, I felt like I was merely catching up with an old friend over coffee. Perhaps next time we could invite our leading men to join us 🙂
