Chief and I are taking off to Singapore for a few days and squeezing in some last minute late 50th birthday celebrations. We thought we ought to stay at the Marina Bay Sands hotel and made a reservation for three of our nights, but after reading the reviews on it, decided against it. You have to queue for check-in, queue for check-out, queue for a taxi and queue for a lift. The pool although spectacular, is crowded and noisy with no quiet areas – it didn’t sound like fun to be honest, so we have booked the Mandarin Oriental Hotel instead – lucky us! The break is mainly for a ‘chillax’ and to sample the fantastic array of multi-cultural dining on offer, from expensive restaurants, to Little India and the Hawker Markets. The pièce de résistance will be brunch at Raffles and I brought my posh frock with me for that one! Of course I’ve brought the new camera with me so thought I’d make a photographic diary of our trip away – stay tuned!

Enjoy Singapore. For something different, take a bum boat to Palau Ubin and ride around the island on their hire bikes. Lovely natural area and the village is a nice change of pace from modern Singapore.

Thanks Paul. Hopefully the sinus and flu thing I’ve had for a few days will start to clear up and I’ll be up for that.
