Symmetry in Photographs

This week, the Lens-Artists photo challenge #116, concentrates on the various forms of symmetry to be found in photography; verticle, horizontal and radial. I’ve not spent much time experimenting with this so it’s certainly something I will explore next time I’m out and about with my camera. Much to my surprise I already have taken photos inline with the symmetrical theme although it wasn’t the intention when I took them!

Demonstrating vertical symmetry, this photograph was taken from our first apartment when we moved to Brisbane; we had a view of the Gabba Oval where a cricket match was just under way when these storm clouds rolled in.

I was experiementing with movement in the next photo which turned out to be an epic fail, but I rather liked the alternative view of the escalators here at Roma Street Station, Brisbane. I’m glad I didn’t delete the shot.

Howard Smith Wharves on the Brisbane River were transformed from derelict buildings into a wining and dining hub, opening a couple of years ago. This shot was taken from the rooftop bar of the Fantauzzo Hotel which is nestled underneath the Story Bridge. Another example of verticle symmetry.

Those of you who are regular visitors to my blog will know that caddying is not my strong point; instead I found more pleasure through the lens of my camera having abandoned my golf-duties. This shot is an example of horizontal symmetry. The pelican was visiting the lake by the course.

An example of radial symmetry, I’m not sure of the name but it might be a type of African daisy.

This ferris wheel is located at the Adelaide Showground. The bucket seats would be fitted just before the Royal Adelaide Show each September. Another example of radial symmetry.
