Not wanting to tempt fate, I’ve kept schtum over the last few months, but with just one week to go, I can now confidently announce that we finally have a family wedding on our hands. “Lucky you!” I can hear the collective misery of thousands of people around the world. Yes, we are lucky, Covid-19 has had less of an impact on our country compared to others, but has luck played a part?
The greatest advantage for Australia is that we are a scarcely populated island compared to a lot of countries therefore social distancing has been possible. And with our international borders closed, we are what you would call – cut off. We are a nation of conformists (mostly) so we have done as we have been directed to (mostly). Mistakes have been made along the way, hence a second wave and a second lockdown – in some areas. Australia is now learning to live the ‘COVID-19’ way – and it is working. The word eradication, although not in the original plan, is now being talked about as a possibility.
We are in pretty good shape right now with state borders opening up and restrictions easing – we thank our blessings – for now.
Nuptials take 2 will be a smaller affair than the original version as sadly we have lost our international guests. However, the plan is to ‘live-stream’ the ceremony (did we even know what that was a few months ago?) so friends and family around the world can ‘attend’. It will be a wonderful day, and I look forward to sharing it with you.
So stay tuned folks!
