What’s Taken So Long

I should have started blogging years ago. Having arrived at these shores in 2005, you would have thought that blogging would be the ideal platform for left behind loved ones and friends to keep in touch with our new life in Australia. Not so – we hit the ground running and before we knew it, our new lives had taken on that familiar routine of school and work and a lack of spare time.
Of course these are modern times and emails were flashing backwards & forwards across the world on a daily basis with photos and newsletters at Christmas. I was one of the first 3 million users of Skype and in the early days there used to be a running total of how many people were online. Now Sunday night is ‘Skype Night’ when we spend the evening catching up – it’s a wonderful addition to an immigrant’s life.

Various social media platforms are a fantastic way to stay in touch with friends and rellies; it’s so easy to upload a photo from a special school occasion or a day out we can all stay connected so much easier than fifteen or twenty years or so ago. There are still old friends and family who do not use social media at all and I’m sorry to say you have missed out. You have missed out because you have been forgotten. I’ve become lazy because social media is easy and just a couple of clicks away whereas email and letter writing takes effort. So I decided to create a half way meeting point that’s easy for us all. Waking the Wombat? That’s for another time!

Life - part two; Australia. Having spent the first 39 years of my life in England, with two adult children who don't need me so much, a workaholic husband and a head full of stuff waiting to be unleashed, Waking the Wombat is my place to share life's experiences with you.

Well done Lu, we look forward to the continuing story perhaps giving us a different slant on your life down-under. For our part we know that you have found great family life style and happiness – which really makes the miles so much shorter. Onwards and upwards. Your ever missing you and loving Dad xxx
